Honours are deserved, not taken for granted

The Hockey Paper - - FEATURE / OPINON -

I’M SO fed up of hearing how everyone deserves to be ‘honoured’ by an outdated political system and comparisons with other sports as if it’s merited. Ditto with media or other ‘awards’.

What happened to simply taking plaudits from the fans and taking pleasure in the trophy and medal that you won?

When I was part of the allconquering Beechen Cliff under-12,13,14 cricket teams, I cherished the medal and the glory. I didn’t go whinging that Millfield won the ‘School Sports team of the Year’ sponsored by the Western Daily Press. Grow up. PAUL HISKENS
