Australians galore

The Hockey Paper - - HOCKEY INDIA LEAGUE -

EVER wondered what’s the favorite pastime of the Australian hockey fraternity? A visit to India, is seems, is high on the priority list these days.

Signing a short-term contract to play, coach or get involved with the lucrative league has caught the attention of those Down Under.

And the endorsement of the HIL by Hockey Australia was central to that being the case.

In February 2015, the Indian and Australian hockey federations signed a contract that ensured India’s men’s team would tour Australia for three years from 2016. In return, the Australian players received the green light to join the HIL.

Even the team bus drivers are getting used to the Australian slang. We wonder if Dabang Mumbai coach Andrew McDonald and video analyst Greg Drake were surprised that the person collecting them used jargon peculiar to Australians.
