GERMAN striker Florin Fuchs was always going to be the go-to man as Dabang Mumbai sought to overcome their indifferent record in past HIL seasons.

Bought for US$96,000 last year, Fuchs has the additional burden of being their new captain. He has replaced injured Australian Matthew Swann, who has opted out of the league owing to a foot injury sustained last month.

The 25-year-old striker, the youngster in the gold medalwinning Germany squad at the 2012 London Olympics, has quickly adapted to the role.

“I was the youngest in the 2012 side. Over the years, as I’ve taken responsibility higher up the pitch, the position and mode of responsibility has also changed,” said Fuchs.

“Now, I know how to provide opportunity to the younger guys and help them adjust to the team environment.”

“Swann was outstanding last year. Missing him will be a big loss to us, but we have top class players like Robbert Kemperman and Emmanuel Stockbroekx to step in for him.”
