Archives to be moved to Kew
The Parliamentary Archives, currently housed in Victoria
Tower, will be moved to The National Archives in Kew.
The Archives contain four million records, including all Acts of Parliament since 1497. However, the risk of fire, water damage, and failure of environmental controls, as well as constraints on access and services, means Victoria Tower is no longer considered a suitable place.
Following the move to south west London, the records of the UK’s executive, legislature and judiciary will for the first time be in one place for researchers to access.
