Speaker celebrates Wheelchair Rugby League

Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle welcomed the winners of the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup to Parliament as part of the first ever celebratio­n of Disability History Month. The team was invited by the Speaker to the Commons to celebrate its 28:24 victory over France at the finals in Manchester on 18 November. They were joined by disabled stars from TV, sport and politics, including actor Julie Fernandez, best known for her role as Brenda in the BBC comedy The Office. Sir Lindsay told them: “You have attracted a legion of new fans and shown non-disabled and disabled people alike the power of good that sport can bring.”
