DOES ANYONE CARE ABOUT MY FARE?

Q In November I booked a flight from Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides via Glasgow to Gatwick, flying on Loganair to Glasgow and onwards on easyJet. The break between them was two hours. Then Loganair moved the flight time later by two hours and 20 minutes. This meant I had to rebook the easyJet flight, at a cost of £50.50. I tried to claim that sum from Loganair but it was refused. I then requested a free round trip from Benbecula to Glasgow, which has also been turned down. What is my next move?

A All you can do is learn from this experience. You chose to make separate bookings, one from Benbecula to Glasgow and the next from Glasgow to Gatwick. In doing so, you took on the risk that the connection could go awry: either in advance because of a schedule change, or on the day, perhaps due to bad weather.

A schedule shift of under three hours is nothing unusual, and I cannot see any prospect of a successful claim. Had you booked a through flight involving Loganair and British Airways, then in the event of a problem you would automatically have been moved to an appropriate connecting flight. As it is, all I can say is that given the possible extra expense, £50.50 is not all bad.

So I suggest you book through flights in future, or consider buying much later; the closer to departure that you book, the lower the chance of an unwelcome schedule change.
