United should approach return ‘the same way’

- MARK CRITCHLEY

Ashley Young believes Manchester United must approach their Champions League trip to Juventus in "exactly the same way" as Tuesday's meeting between the two sides at Old Trafford, despite falling to a 1-0 defeat.

Paulo Dybala's first-half strike proved enough for Juventus to earn a comfortable three points in Manchester and extend their lead at the top of Group H.

United were dominated in the first half and though they improved after the break, only Paul Pogba came close to equalising with an effort that struck the post.

Jose Mourinho suggested in his post-match press conference that the defeat demonstrated the gulf in class

between his side and Massimiliano Allegri's, calling for greater investment from the club.

Young, however, believes there were positives in United's second-half display to build upon when the two sides meet again in Turin on 7 November.

"It was a disappointing result. We didn't do well enough in the first half but I felt we improved massively in the second," he said. "We dominated after half-time and controlled the game, but it wasn't enough.

"I think we need to approach the next game [against Juventus] in exactly the same way. We need to go there, control the game like we did in the second half and try to win the game." Juventus' third straight victory sees them top Group H with nine points, while United sit second on four points after a win, draw and defeat.

Valencia's 1-1 draw away to Young Boys in Group H's other fixture was a positive result for United, though defeat in Turin would damage their chances of qualifying.

Young is not fazed by the prospect of a trip to Juventus and believes United are still well-placed to progress to the round of 16.

"There are still plenty of points to play for in the group. We're in a decent position still, so there's all to play for," he said. "There are plenty more games in the group and we need to finish strongly.
