Terror investigation as three die in park stabbing
Libyan held after daytime attack in Reading leaves many injured
Three people were killed and another three left in a serious condition in hospital after a suspected terror attack at a park in the centre of Reading yesterday. A Libyan man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was said by witnesses to have run into a busy Forbury Gardens at about 7pm and started randomly attacking groups of people. Thames Valley Police said the attack has not officially been declared a terrorist incident. The 25-year-old man was chased and pinned to the floor by officers. He was then searched before being taken into custody.
Security officials told The Independent there was a strong possibility the motivation was terror-related, and police are also examining whether the suspect had any mental health issues. Boris Johnson, said: “My thoughts are with all of those affected by the appalling incident in Reading and my thanks to the emergency services on the scene.”
