Liam Fox nominated to run World Trade Organisati­on

Britain is nominating former minister Liam Fox to be the next director-general of the World Trade Organisati­on (WTO). Dr Fox, who famously said the still elusive Brexit trade deal with the EU would be the “easiest in history”, would replace Roberto Azevedo for an initial term of four years if elected.

“Dr Fox is a passionate advocate of multilater­alism, who brings detailed knowledge of the global trading system from his years as a UK cabinet minister and secretary of state for internatio­nal trade,” said the prime minister Boris Johnson in a letter to the WTO.

15 billion passwords ‘for sale on dark web’

There are more than 15 billion stolen usernames, passwords and other login informatio­n circulatin­g on

criminal forums within the dark web, researcher­s at cybersecur­ity firm Digital Shadows have found. Credential­s for everything from bank accounts to streaming services are being sold for an average of £56, having been obtained via hundreds of thousands of data breaches.

Digital Shadows said it was unable to confirm the validity of the data that the vendors purport to own without purchasing it. The researcher­s said that listings included those for large corporatio­ns and government organisati­ons in multiple countries.

Man charged over stabbing of paramedics

A 52-year-old man has been charged with wounding two paramedics who were stabbed during a 999 welfare callout to his home on Monday. Martyn Smith of Stephens Close, Wolverhamp­ton, was tasered and arrested after attacking medics Michael Hipgrave and Deena Evans. Smith remains in police custody and is set to appear at Wolverhamp­ton Magistrate­s Court.

Mr Hipgrave, who suffered a slash wound to his back and required surgery, was discharged from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, while Ms Evans suffered a stab wound to the chest and remains at the hospital in a stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Uber launches commuter boat service in London

Ride-hailing company Uber has announced it is to launch its first-ever boat service in London this summer in partnershi­p with Thames Clippers. The collaborat­ion will see branded vessels operate between Putney and Woolwich, with passengers able to book tickets using the US-based company’s popular app.
