Wetherspoon says 66 staff tested positive for Covid

JD Wetherspoon has revealed that 66 staff at its pubs have tested positive for coronavirus. The chain, which employs 41,000 people, insisted that visiting its pubs is safe and pointed out that it had invested £15m in hygiene and social-distancing measures. Of the staff members who tested positive, 28 have since returned to work, Wetherspoon said. Pubs where infected staff work have not been closed for deep cleaning and no list is available of premises that have been affected.

Antibody treatment trial at UK hospitals

An antibody treatment that could lessen the symptoms of coronavirus is to be trialled on hospital patients in Britain. The UK Recovery Trial project – coordinated by experts at the University of Oxford – will assess the impact of laboratory-made antibodies on 2,000 patients in the coming weeks. An experimental antibody “cocktail” called REGN-COV2 will be given alongside standard care to see if the new drug lessens the severity of the disease and can even reduce the number of deaths.
