More than 30 people fined for London house party

Police broke up a house party with more than 30 guests at a property in central London in the early hours of yesterday morning. A total of 34 people were fined for breaking Covid rules, with the organiser facing a penalty of £10,000. Guests at the party on Dover Street in Mayfair were playing music and drinking alcohol when the police arrived at 12:52am, the force said. Superinten­dent Daniel Rutland said: “As we prepare for more restrictio­ns to be eased in England it is more important than ever that everybody is following the rules and avoiding unnecessar­y risks.”

Newborn baby found dead in supermarke­t car park

Police are urgently trying to find the mother of a newborn baby who has been found dead at a supermarke­t car park in the West Midlands. The child was discovered by a member of the public at Morrisons on the Black Country Route in Bilston near Wolverhamp­ton yesterday just after 9am. It is not yet known when the baby was born or how the infant ended up in the car park. Police said officers were “extremely concerned

for the welfare of the baby’s mother, and urgently appealing for her or anyone who knows who she is to come forward”.

Unconsciou­s man pulled from sea after tombstonin­g

Police in Wales have appealed to the public not to jump off cliffs into the sea after a man was pulled unconsciou­s from the water on Saturday. The 23-year-old was not breathing when he was rescued but regained consciousn­ess and was taken to hospital after receiving CPR. Officers from Dyfed-Powys issued a fresh warning about the dangers of jumping into water from a height after the incident in Tenby, Pembrokesh­ire, on Saturday evening. The emergency services were called to a beach opposite St Catherine's Island at around 6.15pm and the RNLI administer­ed CPR to the man.

Man arrested over death at Barrymore’s house is released

A man arrested on suspicion of the murder and indecent assault of Stuart Lubbock at the home of TV presenter Michael Barrymore in 2001 has been released under investigat­ion. The unnamed 50-year-old man was arrested on 17 March in Cheshire after “significan­t new informatio­n” on the 20-year-old case came to light, Essex Police said. He was released on bail until 12 April before being released under investigat­ion. Mr Lubbock, 31, died after attending a party at Mr Barrymore’s £2m mansion in Roydon, Essex along with seven other people on 31 March 2001. He was found unconsciou­s in a swimming pool and later died in hospital.
