Police officer charged with attempted murder
A 27-year-old serving police officer has been charged with the attempted murder of a woman. James Riley from Lancashire Police is due to appear in court today.
Officers were called because of concerns about a woman’s wellbeing at a hotel in Manchester earlier this week. They were called at around 11.30pm on Thursday and went to the scene on Brook Street. Emergency services also attended and took the
woman to hospital, where she remained yesterday. She was in a stable condition, Greater Manchester Police said.
Riley has been charged with attempted murder, the force said.
Two dead, one seriously injured, in Bedfordshire stabbings
A double murder investigation has been launched after two men were killed and another was left seriously injured with stab wounds in a town in Bedfordshire. At about 1.20am yesterday, police received reports of a man being hit by a car on Tithe Farm Road in Houghton Regis.
Officers found three men with stab wounds. Emergency services pronounced two of the men dead at the scene. The third man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition. The victims have yet to be formally identified, but specially trained officers are supporting their families.
Detective superintendent Carl Foster from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said: “This was a horrific incident that has resulted in two young men losing their lives and a third suffering very serious injuries. There can be absolutely no excuse for such violence and we will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.”
Dua Lipa says she won’t be performing at World Cup
Dua Lipa has dismissed speculation she will perform at the opening ceremony of the World Cup. The 27-year-old singer said she would not visit the country until it had “fulfilled all the human rights pledges” it made when it was awarded the right to host the tournament in December 2010.
She said on Instagram: “There is currently a lot of speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar. I will not be performing and nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform. I will be cheering England on from afar and I look forward to visiting Qatar when
it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host.”
The Qatar World Cup has consistently attracted controversy, with homosexuality illegal and economic migrants working for low pay and under poor conditions while constructing the stadiums. The country’s sweltering summer conditions also forced the traditional June and July dates to switch to November and December.
Attwood left I’m a Celeb... because of routine blood test
Olivia Attwood has given a tell-all interview about why she was forced to quit I’m a Celebrity after just one day. It was initially revealed that the former Love Island star left the series “as a precautionary measure” in order to “undergo some medical checks”.
But she told The Mail on Sunday that a routine blood test, which all the jungle campmates undergo randomly throughout the show, disclosed that she was dangerously anaemic. It also showed concerningly low sodium and potassium levels, which prompted ITV staff to take Attwood to A&E on Tuesday, despite the star maintaining she felt “absolutely fine”.
She said the tests were repeated in the hospital and came back with normal results. She then went to a hotel to get some sleep while ITV bosses decided what to do next. “They said that because of the results... they were not happy to sign me off to come back in, even though I had the clean bill of health from the hospital,” Attwood said. “I was absolutely devastated.”
