- BY JAMES MASTERS

Joshua Newman continued his golden year after claiming the top prize in the North West National Trampoline Gala in Liverpool.

Newman, who has won four gold medals, two silvers and a bronze in his past six competitions, will now hope to round off his season with victory at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham next month.

The under-15 star is ranked No.1 in his category and has already been selected to travel to Australia this summer in a pre-Olympic tournament as well as the World Championships in Bulgaria next year.

“I’m very happy with my season so far,” said Newman.

“I am ranked No.1 for the under-15 category in Great Britain and am really delighted with my progess.

“Looking to the future, I can’t wait to represent my country in a number of international events this year.”

Father Stuart Newman added: “Josh has made tremendous progress this year and is unrecognisable from the kid we saw at the start of last season.

“He is strong and confident now and a seasoned gymnast who has progressed at every event.

“In Liverpool, he beat his personal total score by a clear four marks, completing his triple routine in the final and will now step that up for the national finals.

“Hopefully he can continue his great run of form and enjoy it.”
