Lions climb

London Lions came from a goal down to move into second place in the South Midlands League Division One following a hard fought 3-1 victory over Sun Postal Sports.

Guy Helman hauled Lions level with an excellent solo effort before Tony Gold’s men found their rhythm in the second half.

Adam Bolle put Lions ahead with his 17th goal of the season following good work from Dean Nyman and super-sub Ben Ellis sealed the points 10 minutes from time.

Lions have now won 14 out 16 league games. They entertain in-form Crawley Green at Rowley Lane tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Lions Reserves climbed to the top of the SMML Reserve Division One with a 5-2 victory at Cockfoster­s. Dan Green (2), Daran Bern (2) and Nick Goodman were the scorers.

Lions B manager Jamie Kyte says it was fitting that Nick Astaire scored a goal his performanc­e deserved followinga­nimpressiv­evictoryov­ertitle rivals Camden Park that saw them move joint-top of the JC MSFL Division One table.

Afteragoal­less first half, the match opened up with Lions s u b s t i t u t e Jonny Cutter linkingupw­ellwithSam­Arghebanta­nd Adam Kosky.

The influentia­l Astaire broke the deadlock 15 minutes from time when Kosky delivered a fantastic cross into the box t h a t was lashed home the centre half.

Super-sub James Gold sealed the points with Lions’ second from Will Beresford’s cross.

Kyte said: “It was a pleasing performanc­e. Nick Astaire scored the goal that got us going and was once again sensationa­l in defence.”

Camden playermana­ger Josh Marks commented: “We were disappoint­ing and I’m frustrated that we were unable to show our class.”
