LEEDS Maccabi 1st warmed up for Sunday’s big match against defending champions New Unicorn with another five-star showing.

Ian Selwyn’s side swept Armley Cons aside 5-2 in their first game following the winter break.

Dave Woolman continued his rich vein of form with an impressive double, while Richard Black, Daniel Seligman and Dan Ross completed the rout.

Two late goals from the visitors added a touch of respectability, but Leeds held on comfortably for maximum points.

Leeds have won seven of their eight league games so far this season and sit three points off the top.

And boss Selywn is now looking forward to Sunday’s clash with unbeaten league leaders, New Unicorn.

“It was a good hard-fought win after a long break,” said Selwyn.

“We were a little rusty in parts but looked comfortable in the end.

“I was pleased with the way the team played on its return, but next week will be a much bigger test against an in- form New Unicorn team.

It was also a good weekend for Leeds Maccabi 2nd who hit eight in their 8-0 demolition of Crumpsall 2nd in the MJSL. Johnny Goldstone (2), Daniel Herschovitz, Rob Stone, Yossi Saunders, Dov Gilbert, Nicky Jacobs and Daniel Kristall completed the rout.

Manchester Maccabi 2nd sit a point clear at the top after a goal from Marc Sheldon earned them a draw against defending champions Haroldeans. Jamie Harris replied for the Merseysiders.

Broughton recorded an impressive 3-3 draw against Manchester Maccabi 3rd thanks to goals from Jake Rubins, Osher Landes and Ari Steinberger. Moishe Hasid, Marcus Buchanan and Adam Herman were on target for the visitors.
