DISCOVER THE KOSHER POP-UP

- Michael Leventhal is director of Gefiltefest, www.gefiltefest.co.uk MICHAEL LEVENTHAL

Kosher pop-ups are springing up everywhere. The latest is from Shana Boltin, the Australian pickle queen and cook behind www.picklenation.co.uk working with Aron Cohen. She’ll be serving creative, seasonal, vegetarian offerings. Check her blog or Twitter feed @ shanabananab for information.

Meanwhile innovative popup Kosher Roast team is planning their first venture outside London; ‘ Roast on Tour’ sets out in October with events in Manchester and Liverpool.

Another original foodie venture to hit our shores is from Israeli entrepreneur Guy Michlin, who has set up a website for home cooks to promote themselves and sell dinners to visitors who come to their homes. EatWith.com already has registered cooks in Israel, Spain and other countries and is coming to London.

The website, www.eatwith.com, allows diners to select chefs who cook vegetarian or kosher food.

Limmud in the Woods takes place over the August Bank Holiday when 250 people decamp to Banbury. The weekend of learning will be entirely self-catered and kosher. Programme highlights include Rabbi Natan Levy’s “Everything you wanted to know about a kosher kitchen but were afraid to ask” and the menu includes a fish kebab barbecue and make-your-own burritos.

Looking ahead, the new JW3 building has lined up an impressive programme of food-related events, including previous Gefiltefest presenters Rachel Davies, Sarah Magnus, David Mendes, Steph Saffer, Anthony Silverman, Fabienne Viner-Luzzato and others. Clarissa Hyman will be presenting a food-writing workshop and a lecture on “Deconstructing the latke”. More details on the JCC website at the end of August.

And finally: Claudia Roden has completed work on an updated edition of The Food of Italy to be released in 2014. You heard it here first!
