- BY SIMON ROCKER

KING SOLOMON High deputy head, Rabbi Jeremy Bruce, has left to take up a new post in America.

He will start as head of the Hebrew High School of New England (HHNE) in West Hartfield, Connecticut, next week.

Rabbi Bruce, 41, who was at the Redbridge school for seven years, the past two as deputy head, said he was “sad to leave the wonderful community of King Solomon, amazing colleagues and motivated kids”. But he had been looking for new opportunities in America.

HHNEpresidentDavidRosentoldparents that Rabbi Bruce had “impressed everyone with his incredible passion for education, his leadership experience, his vision for all that HHNE can be and his overall warmth and good nature”.

Rabbi Bruce acknowledged that King Solomon had recently gone through a difficult time but had no doubt “it will see its way through the current challenges”.

CHELTENHAM SYNAGOGUE’S 175th anniversary was also a celebration of the contribution to the congregation made by small communities adviser, Rev Malcolm Weisman.

Mr Weisman was presented with a basket of wines and a certificate of appreciation. He has assisted the congregation since 1963 and highlights of the association have included leading a special service to reconsecrate the shul in 1985 and, four years later, presiding over the 150th anniversary celebrations.
