Avi’s on the mark again as rusty Rovers pull clear

FOOTBALL Jeremy Brown praised hisdefende­rsforaresi­lientperfo­rmance as London Rovers marched seven points clear at the top of MGBSFL Division Three with a crucial victory over promotion rivals King Crown.

Rovers forged ahead via an own goal on30minute­s.Crownfough­tbackadmir­ably but they were unable to breach a well-drilled defence and eventually succumbed to their third consecutiv­e defeat of the season thanks to a magical strike from Avi Markiewicz.

He moved on to 19 goals for the season with a stunning 87th-minute effort from 40 yards.

Rovers boss Jeremy Brown said: “We didn’t start that well which was due to not having played in so long, but once we got going we showed why we are top of the league.

“Crown used the ball well but they couldn’t get past our back four. It’s a huge win for us and sets us up for the final run-in.”

Faithfold B returned to winning ways, with Dave Sherman, Leor Harel, Dan Gordon and Ashley Ilsen on target in the 4-0 demolition of KS Reunited.

Darren Zitren fired Temple Fortune to their second win of the season against high-flying Real Sosobad. Fortune boss Jonathan Cohen said: “On the whole a point a piece might have been a fair result, but I’m happy to have a bit of luck for once.”

Avi Mocton, Benni Sluckis (2), Saul Cohen, Jono Nesbitt and Jamie Grossman eased Hendon B to their sixth win of the season. Commenting on the 6-1 success over Maccabi London Lions Green, Hendon boss Adam Glekin said: “We dominated the game from start to finish and my only criticism is that we weren’t clinical enough.”

FC Team B continued their merci- less march towards the Division Two title with a crushing 5-0 victory over in-form Raiders C. Richard Salmon (2), Lorian Madanes, Andy Sheena and Jon Breger wrapped up Team’s 10th win in 12 games.
