Model Chai clients show fashionable appreciation
TWO WOMEN who have fought cancer strutted their stuff on the catwalk as a thank you to the charity which supported them.
Tanya Rosenthal and Joyce Misrahi were among the models at a fashion show at Finchley Synagogue which raised £85,000 for Chai Cancer Care.
Mrs Rosenthal said it was a chance to give back to Chai, which had helped her through breast cancer 14 months ago.
“I saw a counsellor and would often go to Chai for acupuncture, which helped me with my symptoms from my chemotherapy and made me feel relaxed. I also saw a physiotherapist who helped me after my operation and then helped me get my fitness levels back by giving me personal training sessions. I gained confidence, comfort and reassurance that I wasn’t alone in feeling how I did.”
Mrs Misrahi, who was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago, said Chai provided “a safe and kind place I could go to get support. They understand what you are going through.
“When I was asked to do the fashion show, I wasn’t sure. I’ve done public speaking before, but nothing is as scary as getting up on a runway, walking in heels and trying to stay upright. It is not as easy as it looks.”
The 350 guests included Dame Gail Ronson, who told of her own debt to Chai.
“Only following my own battle with breast cancer did I begin to fully appre- ciate how an organisation like Chai Cancer Care can provide the lifeline to the cancer patient and their whole family, who feel the effects of a cancer diagnosis.
“Now I understand the value of Chai’s vast experience.”
