A MAN has been jailed for shouting antisemitic abuse in a London street.
Nicholas Sweeney, 34 from Clapton, east London, was handed a 49-day jail term after pleading guilty to two counts of racial religious harassment, and criminal damage to a police cell.
He had directed the abuse at two Jewish men in Stamford Hill.
Sentenced at Thames Stratford Mag- istrates Court, he was ordered to pay £80 victims surcharge and £166 to cover the damage to the cell.
Shomrim, the community security group, had alerted the police following the incident, which took place in August. Neighbourhood police officer Sergeant Owen Pyle said: “This robust sentence shows that the courts will not accept antisemitic or racist behaviour.”
