Bonds beat boycotts

- BY ALAN CURTIS Investment delivers a resounding ‘no!’ to BDS agitators

THEGLOBALIsrael Bonds effort has p r o v i d e d t he state with nearly $40 billion in capital since 1951 and played a decisive role in Israel’s rapid evolution from agrarian nation into a world leader in high-tech, greentech and biotech. Such effectiveness led former president Shimon Peres to declare: “Israel Bonds have helped transform this country from many perspectives, salient among them the homes that were built and the jobs created for the hundreds and thousands of Jews who made aliyah from the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia in the 1990s, enhancing the already-rich mosaic of Israel’s society.”

Israel Bonds have helped make Israel’s economy one of the most resilient in the world and BDS advocates respond by calling for boycotts of Israeli products, companies and social institutions and divestment from corporations that do business with Israel. They demand that investors rid their portfolios of Israel Bonds. Their actions raise the question of who actually wants Israel boycotted. Certainly not people around the world who ben- efit from Israel’s life-saving advances in science and medicine. Certainly not the millions using Israeli technology to improve their lives and make them more productive. And certainly not the distressed citizens afflicted by natural disasters in Nepal, Japan, the Philippines, Haiti and more who rapidly receive vital supplies and medical care from Israeli emergency-responders.

The best response to BDS agitators is to invest in Israel Bonds. In doing so, you will gain a strong investment, help Israel’s economy and deliver a resounding “no!” to BDS advocates.
