£2.50 proves rather nifty for Jewish Care centres

-

KOSHER DELI customers have been showing their generosity by adding £2.50 to their shopping bill at its five stores in north west London to subsidise kosher meals for older people who visit Jewish Care’s community centres across London and the south east.

O v e r t h e p a s t three months shop staff have scanned the additional bar code 1,600 times for customers wishing to make a donation, raising £4,000 for the charity.

Kosher Deli’s Jana Klein said: “We are not just a business, we are a community and we support the community. We are so proud to have been able to support Jewish Care and are delighted that our customers took such an interest in raising a large sum to provide hot kosher lunches for people attending the charity’s community centres.”

Jewish Care chief executive Simon Morris said: “We are so grateful to Kosher Deli for the opportunity they have given us to raise money for Jewish Care.

“The generosity from their customers has meant that we are now able to subsidise 1,600 more hot kosher lunches across our community centres. Many of those who come to the centres for these meals live alone, and this is their only hot meal of the day, so this money will really make a big difference.”

Each week 1,000 older people visit Jewish Care’s community centres and in addition to enjoying hot kosher meals at the centres, there is a wide range of activities to participate in and the opportunity to meet other people.
