My cup kings will only get better, warns Slater

FOOTBALL RICHARD SLATER expressed his pride after Chigwell Athletic secured the double after lifting the MMFL Cup at Rowley Lane.
The east Londoners clinched the Maccabi Masters League title last weekend and manager Slater was toasting double delight following a resounding 4-1 victory over Brady Maccabi.
A triumphant Slater said: “I’m so proud of the players this season. Everyone gave their all for nine months and this is the reward.”

Chigwell d o u b l e d their advantage on the stroke of half-time when Dean Nyman was fouled in the penalty area, allowing top-scorer Adam Stolerman to convert from the spot, tucking his shot into the bottom right-hand corner. Brady halved the deficit soon after, scoringfromthereboundafterChigwell keeper Rob Shepherdson had saved the initial effort. Player-manager Slater played a part in Chigwell’s third goal as they restored theirtwo-goalcushion.HereleasedSummers who played in Sugarman to slot home gleefully at the far post. And it was left to Summers to apply the gloss, swapping roles with the industrious Sugarman whose inviting cross was tucked home. Slater said: “The spirit and togetherness has been a massivefactorinwinning the double this season. “We had a brilliant squad, but you still need to go and do it. “A t 2 - 1 w e showed tremendous character as B r a d y gave it their all. “We’ll enjoy it now but the aim is to do it again next season.”
