Lions can sparkle on big stage

FOOTBALL ANDY LANDESBERG is confident London Lions can lift the Anagram Records Cup for the first time ahead of tomorrow’s final against Springfield FC.

The Lions have reached the final at Letchworth FC following a strong run that has seen them beat The 61FC, Letchworth Garden City, Belstone and newly-crowned HSCL champions Standon and Puckeridge.

Ahead of the tussle against a Springfield team who lie fourth in the Essex Olympian Premier Division, Lions boss Landesberg said: “The team has really developed this season and is competing well in the Herts County League.

“While we can’t win that prize now, a trophy is always a great reward for the effort that’s gone into the season, so we are focused on winning it.

“This trophy will be among the biggest prizes that the club has ever won if we can bring it back to Rowley Lane.”

Landesberg described Max Kyte as the stand-out performer after the striker collected the Player of the Year award.

Kyte guided the Lions into fourth position in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division after registering twice in the 4-1 win over Belstone.

“Max has been outstanding leading the line in a season where he scored more than 35 goals in the Herts County Premier Division,” said Landesberg.

Adam Burchell collected the club’s Young Player accolade after a breakthrough season in which he progressed from the under-16 team to the first team.

The club’s over-35s team look set to miss out on a first Vets League title after drawing 2-2 with Garston. However, they will be out to secure a double when they host Amersham Town in the final of the Invitational Cup at Rowley Lane on Sunday.
