‘Many people walk into this blindfolded’
ELIJAH OYEFESO is a 22-year-old who makes between £30,000 and £40,000 — every month. The Southamptonborn binary options trader dropped out of Buckinghamshire New University to learn the activity, which took him around a year. A f t e r t h a t , he started pulling in between £5,000 and £8,000 per month.
Now, three years later, he owns countless flashy cars and takes private flights to exotic destinations.
He also has to defend himself against online accusations that he and his company, the DCT Trading Group, are frauds.
Having appeared on the Channel 4 programme and cultivated a large Twitter following, he came to face-to-face with the anger and allegations that came with being in the spotlight. “It’s normal, because what happens is, a lot of them put money in and don’t get rich, so they get mad at you.”
What people should understand, he said, is “you’ve got to study for three or four years; you’ve got to get educated. About 95 per cent of people lose money in this industry, and that’s why they get annoyed.
“But that doesn’t bother me, Rich kid: Elijah Oyefeso because I just make it clear to them: if I was a scam, I would not be verified on Twitter; I wouldn’t have these TV appearances; I would’ve been arrested. I’ve been doing this for four years now.”
Mr Oyefeso quickly rejected the idea he advises people, emphasising: “I just guide them. They trade and I tell them what to buy, or they copy what I trade.”
He admitted there were companies that stole money from customers, adding even he had lost money in the way other alleged victims have described.
“As soon as I make a profit of £2,000 or £3,000 now, I move company. Last time I traded with one particular company, I had money in the account and they shut down. I lost about £6,000.”
He was frustrated at many of the customers he had heard complaining, however. “Lots of people put money in something they don’t understand — why would they do that?
“People walk in blindfolded. You have to start small, and then once you’ve mastered it, go to the next level financially.”
