We’ ve been dragged through the mud

- BYYONISTONE Yoni Stone was Oxford University Jewish Society president in 2015-2016

THIS WEEK’S decision is abhorrent and the disgusting coverup is clear. Once more, the Labour Party is siding with antisemitism rather than the Jewish victims.

This decision gives the green light to racism and it is clear that Jewish students can have no faith in the Labour Party to protect them from antisemitic abuse. Instead, the party appears to endorse it.

Oxford students have repeatedly provided evidence and personal testimony to the party.

Multiple students witnessed the repeated use of the neo-Nazi slur “Zio”, heard claims of the existence of a “Jewish lobby”, heard support for Hamas’s stated aims of killing Jews, watched members argue the OULC should not associate with Jews who would not publicly denounce Israel, and witnessed other repugnant antiJewish remarks.

At each stage, the party has chosen to continue the trend of ignoring Jewish voices and allowing antisemitism to have a home in the party.

For 11 months we have waited to hear the outcome of these cases. We have seen the Labour Party hide a Labour Students report, refuse to release the Royall report in full, publish the Chakrabarti report — which appeared to whitewash a number of issues — and finally decide not to pursue disciplinary action.

Throughout this entire process, the Labour Party has treated Oxford’s Jewish students with nothing but contempt, dragging us through the mud at each opportunity.

The decision to clear these students of antisemitic abuse marks one of the darkest days in the Labour Party’s shameful relationship with British Jews.
