Frumar shows his class in Belmont triumph

- BY JC REPORTER

CRICKET AN outstanding allround performance from Dan Frumar inspired Belmont & Edgware to a nailbiting nine-run win over Salix CC.

BECC recovered from 90-4 to post 2235 thanks largely to a superb unbeaten century from Frumar. Coming in at No. 3, he was in imperious form from ball one, starting his knock with two clipped legside boundaries.

Together with captain Adam Jacobs (29), Frumar steadied the innings and he was in dismissive mood, smacking two sixes over midwicket. Frumar brought up a wonderful century in the 31st over, having barely given the opposition a chance and continued to bat on until the end. He finished unbeaten on 115, with Greg Mayer supporting him well with 27 not out.

Salix started their reply in aggressive mood until Frumar exerted some control, claiming the first wicket. Frumar, who could do no wrong, and having unsettled the batsman with a nasty beamer, then bowled him with a beautifully flighted delivery the next ball which clipped the top of off-stump.

A couple of balls later, Frumar claimed his third wicket, when Bala drove straight to Altmann-Richer at mid-off, who after a brief juggle, took the catch at the second time of asking.

With the No.3 still batting well, Salix remained in the hunt despite the loss of five wickets. However, with the run-rate climbing, it became increasingly difficult for them. Inevitably, as they tried to hit out, Belmont generated chances and Frumar exploited this by taking a further two wickets to complete his 5fer.

Bension Tilley bowled with good control to close out the match with two wickets.

London Maccabi Vale suffered their first loss of the season in Division Two of the Chess Valley League on Sunday.

Chasing a total of 237 to win, Vale were well-placed at 111-2 but the curse of Nelson struck to initiate a mini-collapse and the hosts never recovered.

Adam Brand top scored with 46 and there were useful contributions from Joseph Greenwall-Cohen (31) and Jonny Gould (23), but despite late resistance from Steven Allweis and Jonti Aremband, Vale fell short of their target.

Earlier in the day, the side had fought back strongly after a decent Brondesbury opening partnership. Benjamin Lederman (4-32) was the pick of the bowlers. He made the initial breakthrough courtesy of a sharp one-handed catch at slip by Danny Caro.

Fourteen-year-old Rayno GreenwallCohen (2-23) impressed with his accuracy and consistency.

Brand also picked up a brace of wickets, but Brondesbury’s overseas professional made a chanceless unbeaten 93 to take the game away from Vale’s at Rowley Lane.
