Classy Kohler gives Vale perfect tonic
CRICKET Led by a magnificent unbeaten century from Ben Kohler, London Maccabi Vale recorded a comprehensive victory over St John’s Wood in Division Two of the Chess Valley League.
Kohler struck a majestic 106 and there were valuable contributions from Ben Lederman (69), Grant Reingold (44) and Steven Reingold (28) to fire Vale to a dominant total of 270-4.
Steven Allweis and Joseph GreenwallCohen then picked up three wickets apiece to dismantle the visitors and guide LMV to a 189-run triumph.
With several faces having returned to the fold after a successful Maccabiah Games, Vale selected a strong side and made their superiority pay.
Steven Reingold played a series of elegant strokes before he was dismissed, before the partnership between Kohler and Grant Reingold established an unshakable platform. Kohler combined quick running and control with powerful hitting in a chanceless innings, notching his first century for the club.
Lederman added a late flourish, dispatching a full toss over the mid-wicket boundary to bring up his half-century and continue his strong batting displays this season.
With dark clouds looming and rain threatening to spoil proceedings, Vale knew they had to take early wickets. Allweis (3-18) and Greenwall-Cohen (3-18) did just that thanks to incisive swing bowling in difficult conditions.
They swept aside the backbone of the St John’s Wood batting line-up, leaving the part-time spin of Lederman and Grant Reingold to finish off the game and record Vale’s third win in four league encounters.
