Heading in the right direction
FOOTBALL DAN Shafron expressed disappointment after North London Raiders conceded the lead to early pace-setters Brady.
Ben Kohler’s cool finish from 20 yards kept Brady a point clear at the top as they shared the points with Raiders who had gone ahead through David Dinkin’s penalty.
NLR manager Dan Shafron said: “We’re disappointed as it feels like a defeat considering how dominant we were.
“We had several chances to put the game to bed after taking the lead but conceded a weak equaliser and couldn’t find another goal after that.
“There are still plenty of positives to take though, especially from the second half but I’m confident that, if we stay positive and keep working hard, the results will start to follow.”
Brady co-boss Joel Nathan commented: “With a few players missing, we knew we would have to dig deep and that’s what the boys did. I cannot fault the boys for their effort.”
FORMER PLAYER of the Year Liron Mannie has joined Maccabi London Lions Blue from North London Raiders.
MLL boss Sam Marchant admitted the clubs have been in talks for several weeks and that Lions “couldn’t be happier with the outcome”.
Attacking midfielder Mannie has a tremendous work ethic and helped Raiders win the Peter Morrison Trophy for the first time last season. This was the culmination of a period of domination where Raiders won back-to-back Premier Division titles, as well as two Cyril Anekstein Cups.
Marchant said: “We tried to get this same deal over the line last season but it wasn’t meant to be, so it’s a fantastic feeling for the club to be able to make it happen this year.
“Liron will undoubtedly add a lot to the team with his pace, skill and gamechanging abilities.
“This is something we’ve specifically been looking to bring in this season in order to make an impression in our first season in the Premier Division.
“He also brings with him a top-class attitude and mentality and the players have all expressed their excitement and anticipation to begin training and playing alongside him.”
Mannie was quick to thank NLR’s Dan Shafron and Rob Richman for “three great seasons at the club”.
He commented: “NLR was my first experience of Jewish football and what an experience it was. With Jake Doffman and Nicky Lewis leaving the club, one would think the performances would have crumbled, but far from that. They have improved since last season and I know they will go on to achieve great things.”
NLR boss Dan Shafron said he “supported and urged” Mannie to test himself “at the highest level possible”.
