LONDON FA SUNDAY COUNTY CUP ROUND ONE OAKWOOD A 3

HENDON UTD SC 1

FOOTBALL DAN Kristall believes Oakwood showed a different side to their game after their LFASCC success over MGBSFL rivals Hendon.

Simon Davies opened the scoring from six yards following an excellent run and cross from Toby Levy. Tom Cantor doubled the lead with a close-range finish before Avi Korman gave Hendon a chance by reducing the deficit early in the second half.

Hendon pushed Oakwood back and came close to an equaliser when Ari Last’s 20-yard effort came back off the underside of the crossbar.

Oakwood finished strongly and a cool finish from Sam Cantor sealed the win in a game where Oakwood’s Dale Bradman was the star operformer. Oakwood joint-manager Daniel Kristall commented: “Sometimes, you have to win ugly. We dug in and battled through a tough spell in the second half.

“This cup is an unknown to us and we will cannot wait for the challenge of Vista in the next round. As for the league, this sort of win against a title rival sets a real statement. Hendon will be right up there in the final shake-up and we look forward to doing battle again as the season progresses. Our recent record against them is outstanding though. This was our fourth straight win.

“We now put all our focus into catching up on some league games starting with a very tough test against the leaders Brady.”

Hendon boss Greg Corin insists “the cup gave us a chance to experiment. We hope we can take positives from the game. We’ve struggled for players so far this season and also had opposition teams call off games three weeks in a row, so it’s not the start we wanted but once we get a run of games we will be back to our best.”
