Nine-man Lions bite back

FOOTBALL JAMES Gershfield saluted his Lions White team after they completed a sensational comeback to exact revenge in the second inter-club derby of the season.
Beaten 4-1 by the Blues last month, the signs looked ominous for Gershfield and co as the visitors stormed into a 3-0 lead through Adam Abadi, Daniel Fattal and Jono Gaon.
The Whites hauled themselves back into the match via Ben Lampert and Kiki Levin in an action-packed first half.
Lampert and Josh Weiner secured the points but there was still time for one final twist as the Blues were awarded a penalty in the 94th minute.
Goalkeeper Jordan Sharifian produced a stunning save to spark scenes of wild celebration for the Whites who had been reduced to nine men following two red cards. Gershfield commented: “My players deserve huge credit for turning things around after being outplayed for the first 20 minutes and struggling to string a pass together. They never gave up and came back to produce the best 70 minutes of football I’ve seen this season.
“There is a real belief around the camp that our season has now started with back-to-back wins and we go into next week’s game with huge confidence.
“I guess the so-called A-team put the record straight today.”
