Reach for the stars

- BY DANNY CARO

FOOTBALL AARON Dias praised his players for “a great first season” as Fairlop FC secured the Division Two title with their 16th triumph of what has been a memorable campaign.

Goals from Daniel Garfinkle, Pierce Prince and Daniel Rosen, plus two from captain Bradley Gayer, sunk NLR, who lost Zeiderman with an injury after 20 minutes.

“We are delighted to have finally secured the title,” enthused Dias. “It’s been a great first season for us and we are all delighted it has finished with silverware. It was a good game of football. Credit to NLR for getting a team together, they played the game in the right spirit.

“We will certainly enjoy ourselves over the coming weeks but attention will soon turn to next year, where we will be on the hunt for more silverware.”

Dias singled out left-back Prince for praise and said: “Today comes at the cost of Pierce Prince, our Mr Consistent, as he starts his new life in Los Angeles . We wish him all the very best in his new adventure.”

Ben Kaye fired a consolation for NLR and manager Sam Rose saluted the newly crowned champions. “Congratulations to Fairlop on winning the title,” he remarked. “They’re a well-run team that were the best side in our division this year and deserved their promotion.”

Reflecting on a testing campaign, Rose said: “I’m proud of the boys that put on the orange shirt for us. Playing nearly 70 minutes with 10 men, they all stepped up and took responsibility for representing the team.

“It’s fair to say we’ve had an inconsistent season, which has hindered our progress but we will be looking to strengthen in the summer and mount a title challenge next year.”
