‘GB can hold heads high,’ says Hammé
FOOTBALL Brandon Hammé saluted his players after they won silver medals at the European Maccabi Football Trophy in Budapest.
Maccabi GB made the perfect start in the two-day competition, with Aron Gale and Daniel Bean adding to Oliver Sade’s impressive hat-trick in the 5-0 triumph over MTK of Hungary.
Sade, who plays for Los Blancos in the MGBSFL, opened the scoring in the second match against VAC Hungary, with Gabriel Krieger, Dudi Edreyi and Adam Abadi securing a 4-0 victory.
This set up a final against holders Maccabi France who ran out victors for a fourth consecutive time following a goal in each half, ending MGB’s excellent defensive record.
The British delegation collected their medals from Motti Tichauer, chairman of the European Maccabi Confederation, and boss Brandon Hammé reflected on “a fantastic experience all round”.
Hammé said: “The boys did MGB proud throughout the tournament, on and off the pitch. They gave it their all in every game and very nearly went the distance against a France team that have now won an impressive four consecutive EMFT gold medals.
“The squad can hold their heads high with deserved silver medals and look back fondly on their EMFT experience.”
Coach Jordan Sapler remarked: “We played an impressive style of football and we are very proud of our performances throughout.”
