Rampaging Rein golds

- BY JC REPORTER

CRICKET STEVEN and Marc Reingold played key roles as Stanmore earned a crushing 183-run victory over Wycombe House to boost their title hopes in Division Two of the Middlesex League Premier Division.

Opener Steven hit 64 runs as Stanmore reached 251-6 from 48 overs at The Common. Then dad Marc obliterated the Wycombe batting line-up, posting figures of 6-13 from 7.5 overs to lead Stanmore to a emphatic victory.

Belmont & Edgware suffered their second defeat of the Chess Valley League season as they went down by six wickets against Chipperfield Clarendon. In-form openers Jonathan Evans and Elliot Mayer made a storming start as Belmont raced to 36 after 4.4 overs. Both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession before Scott Gerard (22) kept the scoreboard ticking. The innings was rescued by a fine 56-run partnership between Philip Mayer (34) and Michael Blasebalk (38) as Belmont moved to 1838. Tom Hart and Bension Tilley played sensibly and took the score to 223.

Chipperfield rode their luck at the beginning of their reply with a series of edges avoiding the Belmont fielders. They moved to 53 after eight overs before Gerard made the breakthrough, trapping one of the openers leg before. Evans added two more wickets in quick succession and although Tilley claimed another, Chipperfield made easy work of the target, winning with six wickets and more than 10 overs in hand.

London Maccabi Vale failed to build on an excellent 122-run first-wicket partnership between Danny Caro and Adam Spooner as they lost against Finchley. Benjamin Lederman (28) and Nathan Helfgott, made useful knocks as Vale closed on 212-9 from 40 overs.

Finchley’s opening partnership put on more than 150 runs and, although David Marks and teenager Reuben Helfgott registered wickets, the visitors cantered to victory with 17 balls to spare at Rowley Lane.
