Wagner late show breaks Celtic hearts

- BY DANNY CARO

FOOTBALL AN extra-time strike from Oscar Wagner steered HMH into the third round of the London FA Sunday Challenge Cup as they edged a tight contest against Tooting Celtic. The 1-0 win sets up a trip to FC Elmstead. HMH boss Avi Goldberg said: “We overcame numerous injuries to produce a good performance against a dogged side.”

Hendon United Sports bowed out of the same competition on penalties after drawing 1-1 against Cray. Having fallen behind, Chaim Korman levelled for Hendon with a stunning strike, before the defending MGBSFL champions lost the shoot-out 3-0.

Oakwood A exited the London FA Sunday Challenge Trophy after going down 4-1 against FC Kocgiri at the New River Stadium in Tottenham. Kyle Bentwood scored Oakwood’s consolation.

Oakwood joint-manager Dan Kristall remarked: “We played well against a side that will go far in the competition. We now move on to a massive Peter Morrison Trophy tie with Lions Masters. They knocked us out last year so we know how tough it will be, but starting as underdogs will help us.”
