Kindertransport remembered

- BY JC REPORTER

GERMAN AMBASSADOR Peter Wittig addressed a World Jewish Relief ceremony at Liverpool Street Station on Sunday marking the 80th anniversary of the Kindertransport.

He told the 250 people gathered near Frank Meisler’s Kindertransport sculpture that during the “blind racial hatred of the Nazi regime”, the Kinder- transport was “a beacon of humanity”.

Ruth Barnett spoke about her experience of coming to Britain as a four-year-old from Berlin, calling for tolerance and kindness towards refugees. Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis lit the first Chanukah candle.
