CATHOLIC NEWS Service has apologised for using a picture of Ancient Romans plundering the Menorah from the Holy Temple in Jerusalem to wish Jews a happy Chanukah.

The American agency’s message on Twitter provoked accusations of insensitivity.

It later apologised for “sloppy tweeting”, adding: “people were right to be offended.”
