CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP RND 2

Sam Rank described the return of Dean Nyman as a game-changer after the experienced striker marked his Maccabi football comeback with a eye-catching display in the win over Premier Division Faithfold. Nyman recently ended his sabbatical from the game, saying he had “unfinished business,” and he was a key figure as the Division One leaders Redbridge became the first team to reach the third round of the League Cup. Daniel Garfinkle had put Faithfold in front, but Redbridge responded superbly with goals from top-scorer Nate Kashket, James Berkley, Sam Sollosi and David Fialka sending them through. “It was great to have Dean back,” said Rank. “He’s a Maccabi football legend, a multiple winner and an outstanding player. He ran himself into the ground and was very unlucky not to score a couple in the first half. This should be the final piece in jigsaw and should enable us to win the league and cup. Our objective this season is to win the Division One title but I challenged the boys to show that we are Premier Division quality and they did not disappoint.”

Reiss Mogilner (2), Benji Weinberger, David Dinkin and Michael Kenley earned Maccabi London Lions their second win of the season as they beat high-flying Los Camden 5-2. Rob Hershkorn (2) replied for Camden. Lions joint-manager Sam Marchant believes his team “showed what we are capable of really”. He said: “Los Camden A have been playing well this season and getting results, so we knew it would be tough. However, the composure and work the boys put in enabled us to win the game without too many problems.” Los Camden boss Stirling Kay admitted he was “extremely upset at the result”.

DIVISION ONE

Galaxy player-manager Luke Lewis insists his team were in “cruise control” as they boosted their promotion hopes with a comfortable victory over rock bottom Scrabble. Jess Alexander (2), Lewis (2) and Josh Cohen completed the rout in a game they finished with ten men following the dismissal of Ben Nassim. “It was just a matter of how many today,” said Lewis. “We’re building up some momentum now and will be looking to go into the winter break with yet another win against Oakwood.” Scrabble boss Ray Abrahams remained upbeat and said: “If we keep working hard and continue to give it a go like we did today, then there’s no question that results will come.”

DIVISION TWO

Doron Shooter reflected on a “dominant” performance as Faithfold maintained their promotion challenge with a handsome victory. A treble from Benny Goldberg plus one apiece from Jack Joseph and Leor Harel sealed the victory. “Fortune gave a good account of themselves and did their best to disrupt our play,” said Shooter. “We rode a couple of moments where they threatened to come into the game but we dominated throughout and played some excellent football.” Gab Stone claimed Fortune’s consolation and manager Simon Linden reflected on “a difficult morning”. He said: “We looked good for 25 minutes and then lost three players to injuries which made it an uphill task.”

Mill Hill Dons assistant-manager Jamie Nagioff praised his team’s “intensity” as they rallied from a goal down to beat Raiders. Michael Field had put Raiders ahead from the penalty spot but the Dons responded through Nagioff, Sam Stead and Isaac Virchis. “I was absolutely delighted with the attitude of the players,” said Nagioff. “It’s a fantastic feeling to be playing much better now and we’re finally on a good run.”
