FC Team pay penalty in Millet masterclass

- BY DANNY CARO

HERTSWOOD VALE joint-manager Jacob Emanuel was generous in his praise for talisman James Millet who fired his second hat-trick of the season as the leaders maintained their three-point advantage over Faithfold B.

Millet produced three excellent finishes to take his tally to 16 goals in 11 games as they brushed off the challenge of FC Team.

Vale were quickly into their stride and Millet opened the scoring when he rose unchallenged at the far post to head a cross from Ben Kaye into the roof of the net.

Jordan Harris doubled the lead with his first Hertswood goal, showing great composure to lob his shot over goalkeeper David Grossman.

The visitors continued to press in the second half and a dangerous cross from Josh Gorb resulted in an own goal. Eddie Sternberg pulled one back for FC Team before Millet was hauled down in the area by Ryan Kangisser and converted the resulting penalty. FC Team could not handle the in-form Millet who completed his treble with another cool finish, after latching on to a throw-in from Danny Feuer. Josh Morris added a second late on for an FC Team side who finished well beaten.

Emanuel said: “It was a solid performance and a big three points. We knew all about FC Team’s attacking qualities coming into this game, but we turned up and put in a solid offensive performance ourselves, whilst our defence and midfield was strong throughout, quelling most of what FC Team had to throw at us.”

Commenting on the performance of match-winner Millet, Emanuel commented: “It’s impossible to ignore this man. He’s the best player in the MGBSFL Division Two without a doubt. He produced another classy performance and make no mistake, he’s hungry for more.”

FC Team boss Mitch Young described his side’s performance as “dreadful” and said: “It didn’t help we were missing a number of key players. However, their goals could have been easily avoided, and in truth we never got our strikers into the game.” Young warned: “The positive is that at full-strength, I believe we will beat them.”
