Happy return for Edwards

ATHLETICS AFTER several months out of action due to injury, Ellie Edwards, 22, was back on the track at Manchester’s Sportcity with a 60m time of 8.15sec at the Sale Harriers open series meeting.

At the same venue a few days later, pole vaulter Lucie Wolfenden, 17, made a confident start to her U20 campaign.

Her leap of 3.12m at the Manchester pole vault open, where she placed second, was just 3cm off of her personal best.

Liina Otsalu of Maccabi London Harriers contested the 60m for the first time at the Sutcliffe indoor series event in Eltham, South London, winning her heat in 8.99sec.

Otsalu, 23, only restarted her athletics career in August last year after an 11-year break.

Long-distance specialist Nick Gold completed the 5K in Hyde Park in 16.57. It was the Highgate Harriers V45 athlete’s best time since 2012.
