A Bafta bonanza

-

There was no shortage of Jewish talent or interest among Wednesday’s nominations for the Baftas, Britain’s premier film awards. Rachel Weisz was given the nod for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Favourite, a drama set in the 18th century court of Queen Anne.

American actor Timothée Chalamet was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Beautiful Boy. Mr Chalamet, 23, who hails from New York, plays Nic, a drug addict.

Also up for Best Supporting Actor was Adam Driver, who was nominated for playing a Jewish police officer in Spike Lee’s film about the KKK, BlacKkKlansman. Mr Driver is not Jewish.

Another nomination went to the documentary

Three Identical Strangers, about the journey of Jewish American triplets who were brought up oblivious to the fact that they each had two identical brothers.

Also nominated in the documentary category was RBG, the story of feminist lawyer and US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The Bafta ceremony will take place on February 10 and be screened on BBC1.
