Head role follows the Square route

- BY JC REPORTER

LIFELONG BELSIZE Square Synagogue member Caroline Loison is the new head of its cheder, replacing Jeanie Horowitz, who was in charge for 16 years.

Mrs Loison has taught in the state and private sectors, as well as in the cheder, where she was once a pupil.

She wants to create an environment conducive both to learning and having fun. “Educating the next generation has always been my passion and I can think of nothing better than playing an important role in the education of the children at my own synagogue,” she said.

“Appreciating the uniqueness of Belsize Square, founded by refugees 80 years ago, means I recognise what our members are looking for. I am determined to ensure the cheder thrives.”

The synagogue will honour Ms Horowitz at a Shabbat kiddush later this month. Paying tribute, Rabbi Stuart Altshuler said she had “brought enthusiasm and skill to everything she has done for the congregation and Jewish education”.
