FOOTBALL YOSSI Benayoun has signed a six-month contract with Beitar Jerusalem.

The former Premier League star, now 38, has confirmed Beitar will be his last club before joining their coaching staff. He played for Beitar last season but left after falling out with the club’s former owner.

However, Benayoun was given a reprieve by new owner, high-tech billionaire Moshe Hogeg, who was eager to bring Benayoun back to the club and the opportunity arose when Benayoun left Maccabi Petah Tikva last month following a disagreement with coach Elisha Levy.

Midfielder Benayoun returned to Israel in 2014 after a successful Premier League career which saw him play for Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham.

Benayoun said: “I’m delighted to be returning to Beitar Jerusalem and finish my career at this special place.

“I look forward with great expectations to meeting the fans again and the special atmosphere at Teddy Stadium. I am ready and committed to meet the challenges ahead.”

Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk have signed 19-year-old Israeli midfielder Manor Solomon from Maccabi Petah Tikva for €6 million.
