FOOTBALL ZACK Lewis’s last-minute winner enabled Hendon United to preserve their lead at the top after coming through a five-goal thriller against Lions at Rowley Lane.

Lewis put Hendon in front with the only goal of a first-half short on quality. Lions had dominated possession but they were denied by an outstanding piece of defending from Zac Garbacz who was at full-stretch to clear off the line.

Lions equalised through Michael Kenley but Hendon restored their advantage with Chaim Korman add- ing the finishing touch to a counterattack.

The hosts felt they had done enough to earn a point after a far-post finish from Adam Arnold but a moment of magic from Lewis, who capitalised on great work from Gav Noe, ensured Hendon maintained their seven-point advantage over Oakwood.

Lions joint-manager Max Kyte said: “It was another great game but we are particularly sore about the result given our performance.

“All the boys worked hard and the game was very even on balance. We just about had the better of Hendon in the first half, but the roles were reversed in the second.

“The game could have gone either way with some great chances for both sides.”
