PETER MORRISON TROPHY ROUND TWO HMH 9 FAIRLOP FC 0

FOOTBALL AVI Goldberg praised the devastating finishing qualities of strikers Oscar Wagner and Adam Abadi as they contributed seven goals between them in HMH’s nine-goal demolition of Fairlop FC.

The visitors, who sit third in the MGBSFL first division, arrived hopeful of causing an upset. But the absence of former Player of the Year Ryan Cole and captain Bradley Gayer meant they were no match for the Premier Division high-f liers.

HMH stormed into a 5-0 lead at halftime, with Wagner completing a firsthalf hat-trick. He added a fourth in the second half, while Abadi secured his treble and Ben Winters chipped in with the other two. Wagner’s heroics mean he has now scored 13 goals in 12 matches, while Abadi has registered eight in ten games.

HMH manager Goldberg said: “This had all the hallmarks of being a tricky encounter, especially as we had failed to win our last three games. But my lads responded in best way possible by blowing Fairlop away. A weakened Fairlop perhaps, but nevertheless 9-0 is a huge score. We dominated the game, dominated possession and scored almost at will.

“Fairlop did have a bit more of the ball in the second half. They came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but generally it was more of the same as we rattled in another four goals and missed a few straight-forward chances.”

Asked about the partnership between Wagner and Abadi, Goldberg replied: “They took most of their chances and ran rings around Fairlop’s centre-backs.”

HMH, who will face Oakwood A in the quarter-finals, bid farewell to goalkeeper Jacob Shapiro, who played his final match before relocating to Germany. Goldberg said: “It may not seem that way given the scoreline but when he is in charge and on his game, our defence don’t give away much in large part due to the confidence he instills and that’s why we have the meanest defence in the division. Goldberg confirmed former Goalkeeper of the Year Jake Doffman will replace Shapiro.
