Composer who’s arrived

MOSCOW-BORN ROS Gilman, who had to switch to composing after an injury forced him to give up his career as a violinist, has been gaining increasing recognition for his work. The Finchleybased musician has just won an independent Aphrodite Film Award from New York for his soundtrack to the short film, The Arrival, about a young Jamaican woman who comes to the UK.

“The film is centred around secrets,” he said, “and one of the challenges I faced when writing the music was to keep the suspense going, without tipping over too much into the genre of a thriller.”
