Model response
The vote last week by more than 200 undergraduates at Essex University against the establishment of a Jewish Society was shocking. But the reaction of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Anthony Forster, was a model of its kind. There was no equivocation and no excuses. Within a day of the story breaking, he acted himself to ensure the JSoc was set up, established a meaningful review into the background to the vote and made all the right noises. Other Vice Chancellors should take note.
