‘No corporal punishment’
A CHASIDIC school in Stamford Hill has assured Ofsted it does not use corporal punishment after staff told an inspector they recognised a pamphlet that advocated its use.
Ofsted carried out an emergency inspection after concerns about the pamphlet, ‘Encouragement to Teachers and Guidance for Parents’, written in Hebrew by Mendel Lowen. The inspection service said the school’s headteacher had been one of several signatories to it.
Staff were “adamant that this is not used in the school,” Ofsted reported. “The inspection found no evidence to the contrary.”
The school complied with welfare and safety standards, it said.
Wiznitz Cheder declined to comment; when approached, a spokesman said, “You are anti-Charedi.”
