UJIA STAFF and supporters paid tribute to Michael Wegier at a reception to mark his departure as chief executive after six-and-a-half years. Former UJIA chairman Bill Ben- jamin said “his dedication to the state of Israel was second to none”. Mr Wegier had been “a steady pair of hands” who would pass on an “immeasurably better” organisation to his successor.

Mr Wegier said it had been “a privilege to serve the Jewish people as a Jewish communal professional”.

His departure is indicative of a year of transition among major communal organisations with new chief executives taking office at both Jewish Care and Norwood.
