Schiff plays well with IPO set
A PERFORMANCE by renowned pianist Sir András Schiff was the highlight of a gala dinner at Lambeth Palace held by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra Foundation
UK.
Sir András is a longstanding supporter of the
IPO and its aim to foster peace and dialogue through music.
He described it as “a reminder of some of our most basic human values. Through music and art we must try to bring peace, understanding and love to the people of this world. We have to build bridges, not walls.”
The evening, which raised more than £190,000, celebrated the cultural legacy of Lilian and Victor Hochhauser, tireless supporters of the IPO and champions of classical music, ballet and opera for more than 70 years. Helena Newman, chair of Sotheby’s Europe, conducted the auction and the Russian ambassador to the UK, Alexander Yakovenko, was among the guests.
